About

Anthony Bowman is a modern quilter who makes both functional quilts and art quilts. Anthony was born and raised in Ohio, and has lived in Chicago, the District of Columbia, Shanghai and Qiqihar in China, and New York City. He recently moved back to Ohio to be closer to family. Anthony’s earlier work incorporates elements of modern traditionalism in his quilts, and combined this modern traditionalist aesthetic with symbolic representations of community, togetherness, and inclusiveness. Most recently he has ventured into more abstract designs, abandoning rulers in favor of using a rotary cutter to draw the lines in his compositions.

Anthony has a masters of social work from the University of Illinois at Chicago and a bachelors of arts from Antioch College in Yellow Springs, OH. Professionally, he has led community organizing and coalition-based initiatives locally and nationally for over twenty years.
